THE TEST DRIVE



Like it or not, you've been dragged from your world into the sanctum. It's a pretty nice city, all things considered--sci-fi, high-tech, glamourous.... Except, of course, for the giant dome encircling it, and the threat of glitching, contaminated zombies at your door. Looks like humanity's built itself a fortress that looks suspiciously like a cage, too. 

The object of this meme is to get people familiar with the world of the Sanctum, and to try to see if their characters would fit in a sci-fi utopia such as this. Here are your options:
1. Intro: Waking Up. Make your intro post, folks. You wake up in a strange place, and get a strange transmission to go with it. There's a pair of glasses connected to some sort of communications network, but otherwise not much else in the room with you. What are you going to do? 

2. Environmental Glitching. Why the hell is it so hot inside the dome? Wasn't it just the perfect temperature yesterday? 

3. Genetic Altering. What it says on the tin. Want a go? Want to suffer the side effects? Want to keep someone you love from getting something done?

4. Memory Glitch. Nobody seems to remember you. Literally. Not your housemates, not your coworkers, not your friends. It's like you never existed.

5. Military Training. Everyone's got to start somewhere. You're training the green folks, maybe you're one of the newcomers yourself. Maybe you haven't even touched a gun before in your life. Either way, you'd better start now.

6. Network Glitches. Strange messages are coming through the network, embedded in posts from other users. Beyond anonymous and completely untraceable, these posters claim that Bifrons has changed more about you than you know. It's suggested that you look into past dealings with Kilo to gain better understanding of what you're up against. Do you investigate?

7. Wildcard. Choose your own adventure or create a cocktail from the presented options! The choice is YOURS.

[She's trying now to make up for that mistake, although Tex stands by what she did. It's been done and over with for years now, from her perspective.

At least she can understand CT's current attitude - hatred for those in charge? She can relate to that.]

They put us to shame. Trying to get information from them is like pulling teeth, except you have nothing to show for it when you're done.

Great. I love secrets.

[A massive lie, tinged with a bit of good-natured sarcasm. She hopes it opens some door or another, but she's not holding her breath.

Their situation, though, is fresh for CT, a week back yet somehow a lifetime away. She doesn't hold a grudge, but she regrets how things went down and hopes that Tex understands why she did what she did. On some level, she wants an acknowledgement of her tiny pyrrhic victory. But that's probably not going to get discussed during Roastfest, here.]

Then you'll love this place. [Sarcasm again and she glances upwards. Why did the weather have to be so screwed up? This might be the one time in her life she's considered a rain dance.]

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll cause a thunderstorm in the next few minutes.

Maybe we'll have a wet t-shirt contest after that.

[Humor? Does humor work?]

Only if it's with ice water. [And now, her mind is stuck on the image of ice. God, it sounds great right now.] Might just settle for a bathtub full of ice, instead.

[connecticut]

Count me in, if you're sharing.

[She could swim in the stuff, given the chance. Or even something just lukewarm would do. Anything cooler than the air would be a relief.]

I might, at a premium. How much you willing to pay? By the cube. [Girl's gotta make money somehow. She's just going to lean against a wall and fan herself.]

[connecticut]

That's not really sharing, but I get it.

[She shrugs, turning away and finding a place to take a seat against the same wall.]

Do people actually care about money here?

[ghostthatlingers]

[She sighs.] Yeah. How else do you pay for things here? They don't hand us everything and they sure don't want us having half of what we end up with.

[connecticut]

It just seems kind of pointless to have money when you're stuck in a closed situation with zombies.

[Stretching.]

I don't know. I feels like it's ripe for a free for all.

[ghostthatlingers]

[She snorts.]

You'd think so. They seem to barely keep control of this place, especially in the poorest district where they don't bother.

[connecticut]

So if they don't bother, why do we? I'm not saying anarchy is the answer, but a level playing field might be nice.

[She knows all about the completely nonexistent concept of equal treatment, though, so she's not really convincing herself of anything.]

Pipe dreams. I'm new and hopeful.

[ghostthatlingers]

Because they've got the one-up on us. For now. [She's as antsy as anyone else to do something despite being here longer, but being alive? Is kind of nice.]

You'll get the feel for this place soon.

[connecticut]

If I wasn't technically dead I'd be protesting the hell out of getting used to this.

[Yeah, she said it. So what? Being an idealist didn't work out so hot, so she might as well just be a realist.]

Join the club. We've got more benefits than you'd think a bunch of ghosts would get. [Her words are accompanied with a slight smirk. It's a club that has an oddly high membership here.]

[connecticut]

I don't feel like thanking anybody for those.

[Not yet, anyway. It's pretty great to be alive, pretty shitty to be here. Can't she get raised from the dead on a beach in the tropics with a cold beverage?]

[ghostthatlingers]

[She shrugs and for a brief moment enjoys having her eyes closed as she imagines a much cooler place.]

You don't need to, but we're stuck here now.

[connecticut]

And it's a regular party.

[Sarcasm again. They may be sweating up a storm, but the humor is at least dry.]

Where are the systems and controls?

[ghostthatlingers]

In the Hub. I haven't seen them myself, but they'd be stupid to keep them anywhere else. That's where anyone important holes themselves up, in case us lowly guests decide to attack.

[That last bit contains some bitterness. They're not so much 'guests' as prisoners, a status she does not want nor appreciate even if it means being alive.]

[connecticut]

So people have tried. Sounds great. We're totally screwed, aren't we?

[Yeah, no. Good and bad, but the bad creeps CT out more than anything. Nice to be alive, shit to be under a magnifying glass.]

[ghostthatlingers]

I'd be surprised if they haven't. You can't abduct a bunch of people, mess with their bodies, and expect nothing bad to happen.

[She's still relatively new to this asshole-ish place.]

[connecticut]

[There's a pause as her brain draws parallels, and then she laughs.]

Eventually they'll get what's coming to them.

[ghostthatlingers]

Yeah, they will.

[Until then, the AC seriously needs to get fixed in this dome. She fans herself more and sighs.]

This place is hotter than Texas in summer.

[connecticut]

They could have least given us cold water.

[But no.]

Seriously, how do you think a city girl like me feels?

You think I'm not a city girl because I come from Texas? [Her tone is one of amusement and she flashes CT a small smile.]
