FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ARRIVAL

» HOW DOES MY CHARACTER ARRIVE?

Your character wakes up, materialized and pulled from their world. They get placed in an emptied out metal chamber, a device akin to a CT Scanner. The cold metal panel that they're lying on, pulls out from under them bringing them into a room void of anything save for a table. On that table, there is a monitor, a few small personal possessions, a communication device and a space suit. They will also notice, a minor modification on their body. Placed along their spine is a series of ports.

The monitor will automatically start and this - message will flash on the screen. Should your character watch it, smash the screen, believe it, ignore it - it's entirely up to you.

They are free to do as they please after that point.

» WHAT ARE THEY WEARING WHEN THEY WAKE UP?

A stark white patients gown.

» WERE THEY EXPERIMENTED ON?

Yes and no. The Scientists in charge of Project Immunis installed the ports on their back. They've also taken liberties to take blood and DNA samples. It was a painless procedure.

How much of this your character recalls, and how conscious the character was during the operation is up to the player.

» WHERE IS MY CHARACTER WHEN HE WAKES UP?

They arrive in the lab facilities of Bifrons Inc, in District 3.

» DOES MY CHARACTER GET ADDITIONAL CLOTHES?

Nope. Not unless you requested upfront during the app. You can have them wander around the city in the medical gown if you want.

» WHAT STUFF DOES MY CHARACTER GET?

The only things the character receive upon arrival are any personal items that were transported with them, the communicator and a space suit. These items are placed neatly next to the monitor.

The character may also receive items that are in some way relevant to them though not necessarily requested, ranging anywhere from funny to pointless to tragic, subject to the whims of the mods Bifrons employees.

» WHAT KIND OF THINGS CAN MY CHARACTERS BRING WITH THEM?

For a rough outline, however do not limit yourself to this:
• mementos such as photographs, jewelry, letters, etc.
• clothing and accessories. (outfits, hats, bags)
• books, magazines, etc.
• mobiles phones, communicators from prev. games, laptops, etc.
• knicknacks (yoyos, bananas, magnifying glasses, etc.)
• food and beverages.
• pets.
» WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY LEAVE THE ROOM?

» They'll be at a long hallway filled with doors. Characters that arrive within the same timeframe as each other can bump into each other before they head out. This is not an off-limits area, so other characters can also welcome them in.

If they decide to explore; most areas will be OFF-LIMITS save for the other characters' rooms and the exit.

THE VIRUS

» WHAT IS PROJECT IMMUNIS?

Project Immunis is an algorithm activated by ALPHA. It initiates a teleportation device that pulls people from the multiverse into the Sanctum. The pulled people have in them a certain genetic composition that makes them "immune to Dysthrophy".

» WHAT IS A DYSTHROPE/DYSTROPHY?

Dystrophy is a viral condition that occurs when the skin is exposed to the air outside of the city. Conditions may vary from body to body, and someone exposed to the condition can pass it on by means of contact via fluids.

THE LIFE CYCLE OF THE VIRUS:
• Starts with an itch in the place where the skin is exposed.
• The itch starts progressing into the skin detaching itself from muscle and wasting away, literally rotting away the skin.
• After decomposition starts, the virus makes its way to the other areas.
• The spreading of the disease can stop if the exposed part is severed.
• If unable to severe, after 72 hours, the host body of the virus infects the mind and becomes rabid and out of control. Dystrophes will attack anything in sight.
ERGO: SPACEZOMBIES.

» HOW DO YOU STOP DYSTHROPHES?

By shooting that motherfucker down. It is a practiced tradition in the Sanctum, that dysthropes are burnt to ensure that they stay dead. Dysthropes are as strong as the infected body under the influence of adrenaline. Any body modifications/upgrades incurred when alive can be carried over.

» WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?

Think of something similar to deadspace's necromorphs and this picture from reaper78 @ dA. Dysthropes are their freaky alien baby.

Dysthropes, unless viewed under a computer/a camera will also be different from how they appear in the real world. In the real world, they'll look really glitchy. They will seem pixelated and blurry. The faint sound of static will also follow them around.

Most suits used in exploration come with vision filters.

» ARE MY CHARACTERS REALLY IMMUNE TO THE VIRUS?

YOLO or we're leaving this entirely up to the player.

AT THIS STAGE, THIS IS NOT YET IC KNOWLEDGE:

The science is very hit and miss with an unstable formula. However, most NPCs truly believe that EVERYONE they've brought in is immune.

It is up to you whether or not you want to announce their immunity or keep it to yourself. However, we do ask that if you've played out the outcome, not to switch it on the next exposure to the virus. Example: For the first mission, Joe takes his helmet off and finds that he's immune. On the second mission, Joe finds himself not immune at all. We kindly ask you not to switch between choices.

» WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHARACTER GETS THE VIRUS DURING A MISSION?

IF NOT IMMUNE:
Scenario - say Joe's arm is exposed to the virus. Joe now has the option of chopping it off and replacing it with robot parts. This is known as upgrading.

Joe also has the option of going cray and becoming a dysthrope or being "dealt with" before that happens. Joe has a rough margin of 42 hours ( IC hours! ) to get back to The Sanctum for operations, with the disease spreading along the way.

IF IMMUNE:
If Joe gets bitten by a space-zombie, he will feel the pain of being bitten but will not necessarily die of the virus. If skin is exposed to the atmosphere - they will feel a scalding sensation from the air.

Immunity is not a guarantee to safety or an exemption of death.

» WHAT IS "UPGRADING"?

It's the catch-all term for any modifications the character makes to their body. For full information on how this works, visit the UPGRADING page.

» WHAT ABOUT "GENETIC ALTERING"?

Similar to upgrading, but genetic altering has levels. A recent addition, your character is able to get some form of ability or mutation in an attempt for the city of Sanctum to better understand genetics and, ultimately, a cure for Dysthropes. Unlike upgrades, these alterations have different "levels," and can be more or less potent depending. More information is on the GENETIC ALTERATIONS page.

GAMEPLAY

» IS THIS PERMADEATH? CAN I KILL MY CHARACTER?

Yes. It is permadeath. You can kill your character and you can also make that death plot related. Hit us up, either way.

» WHAT IS THE GAME'S PACE?

Primarily, because we want to focus on interactions and give time for plot to develop - we're imposing a 3:1 ratio. Meaning 3 days IRL will equal to 1 day in game. Ideally the schedule would go:
• The first day will be: morning.
• The second day will be: afternoon.
• The third day will be: evening.
There will be a LOT of leeway in future dating and back dating. Plots will be announced roughly 1 IRL week in advance, and the calendar is continuously updated. We encourage and promote flexibility when it comes to the time and the setting.

» HOW DOES THE NETWORK WORK?

You get google glass. Users can connect to the network using communicators. It can do VOICE, TEXT and VIDEO transmissions.

It has an enabled anonymous function, and the ability to filter messages with varying degrees of encryption (just use a 1%-100% scale). Your characters ability to encrypt and decrypt is largely dependent on how technologically savvy they are. Your character can also register the device to something that isn't his name (meaning: a handle/alias, a nickname, an existing characters name, etc).

Your characters can also swap them in, in some of the electronics shops if they want them in other colours!

» CAN THESE GLASSES TAKE SELFIE TYPE VIDEOS?

They can if you set them down on a table or a flat surface. Feel free to do VIDEO posts through the character's perspective as well.

» HOW DO WE DEAL WITH LANGUAGE BARRIERS?

The ports on your character's back are set so everyone speaks and writes the 'common language'.

» WHERE WILL MY CHARACTER LIVE?

They will be assigned to one of the housing complexes in one of the districts. They can later be transferred to better residences upon request.

» WHAT ABOUT MONEY?

The form of currency is CREDITS. To get a rough scale of prices, think 1 Credit = 1 USD.

Credits can be earned by: working or assisting the military.

» MY CHARACTER NEEDS WORK!

There is a jobs page.

» WHAT ABOUT SHOPS, HOSPITALS AND OTHER LOCATIONS?

If you need it, it's there. Meaning, we're letting you guys run a little bit crazy with your imagination. We've mentioned a few places in the settings, but feel free to create outside of that. Seriously.

» NONE OF THE JOBS FIT MY CHARACTER, WHAT DO I DO?

Suggest a category or position that would fit to the mods on the jobs page or if they're the type, have them start up a business via the requests page. No one should be bored and broke under the Dome, if you can think of something we haven't yet? Let us know and we'll add it!

» WHAT ARE CALLSIGNS?

CALLSIGNS are native AU or OC characters that are connected to the militia in some capacity and have a pre-established Rank and CR with other Callsign characters. They act as mentors, guides, employers, plot hooks and plot runners for minor events inside and outside of the dome for the player characters.

Each Callsign runs some aspect of the Sanctum, be it security, the medical center, research and development, or another position of authority connected to the Militia or life in Sanctum. Immune or Native AUs that aren't Callsigns can be promoted into Callsign positions through great acts of cooperation with the militia or other noteworthy feats.

» DOES MY CHARACTER GET TO KEEP THEIR POWERS?

Nope. They are nerfed down completely. The main focus of the game is survival and adaptation. To ensure fair play, characters who are reliant on ITEMS for their powers will find their gear either not working or constantly malfunctioning.

However, we are offering UPGRADES to compensate the loss of powers.

For Supernatural/Xenomorphic characters such as Vampires or Werewolves, their powers will be nerfed down completely but their shifting and dietary needs will still apply. It will be a handicap more than an asset. Blood will not be readily available, however we are open to feeding plots.

» IS THERE ACTIVITY CHECK?

Yes, every month we have CHECK INS where you post your required activity of 5 comments in either [community profile] sanctumslogs or [community profile] sanctums. We're a laid back sort of game so we have a laid back AC, if you're having difficulty due to real life and haven't posted a hiatus, talk to a mod about your situation so we know what's up.

We notify for events roughly one week in advance (with the PLOT NOTIFICATION post also serving as a mini-CR meme) so there's a lot of time to OOCly communicate about what's going to happen during the event.

We completely understand that RL > RP always, and the pacing is set to accommodate that. Basically, we just want to encourage honesty and communication. On that tangent however, character squatting is not cool. Talk it out with your CR and cast and always keep an open door for communication.

APPLICATIONS

» WHAT KIND OF CHARACTERS CAN I APP?
• Canon Characters
• Original Characters
• Fan Characters. Provided they have NO relationship to the characters already established in canon. For example, a Homestuck Fan Troll would be alright but the character cannot be directly related to say: Karkat.
• Fan based AUs - such as modern adaptations, genderbends, etc. We also allow canonmashes - combining two existing fandoms together as AUs (For example: A Hunger Games AU of Sansa Stark). We advise to strongly consider how the events of those particular universes would affect your character.
• Silent Protagonists.
• Characters with CR/Memories from other games.
• Characters who are native to the setting. ( AUs and OCs )
We allow up to to three variants of a single character.

» WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHARACTER HAS DIED IN CANON?

That's fine. They'll wake up in the chamber with all their wounds healed.

» MY CHARACTER IS NOT "HUMAN" OR A HUMANOID - WHAT DO?

For talking animals - such as characters from My Little Pony - we're leaving it up to you whether or not you wish to humanize them.

However for cases wherein we have characters without bodies, such as systems like Jarvis are going to be given a human form. This also applies to ghosts or any characters that don't take a physical shape.

For cases of characters who look distinctly like robots, think Wheatley from Portal or someone from Transformers - we're leaving it up to the players choice if they would wish to keep him as a robot or send him off in a human body. They will still receive the modification of having new ports placed in them.

» WHAT IF I WANT TO MAKE A NATIVE AU OR ROLL OUT A NATIVE?

That's fine! Here are some ideas/guide questions for creation:
• What district did they grow up in?
• Have they ever been outside the dome?
• Have they lost anything to the virus?
• Who are the important people in their life?
• How do they feel about the "Immune"?
• etc.
Also, feel free to post in [community profile] spacezombies to coordinate for things like storylines, past cr and background information.

» I'M NEW, CAN MY FIRST CHARACTER BE A CALLSIGN?

No. We would rather new players app in with Native AUs, OCs, or OU characters to get a feel for the game's plot, pacing, and overall dynamic before they app a CALLSIGN or request a promotion to a CALLSIGN position.

» BUT I HAVE A REALLY COOL IDEA AND IT'D BE SUPER FUN!

We'd love to hear it! We're always excited to hear about new characters or takes on what can be done in the setting, but we request that any new player is in the game and active (outside of official hiatuses) with another character for two months before apping in a Callsign or requesting a promotion.

» HOW DO I APP IN A CALLSIGN / REQUEST A PROMOTION?

CALLSIGN application forms are on the APPLICATIONS page. PROMOTIONS can be requested at any time no matter the status of the application cycle. New CALLSIGNS applied in must be submitted within the same timeframe as other player characters.

» IS THERE A CHARACTER CAP?

At present, we're allowing a maximum of FIVE characters per player. CALLSIGNS count towards this cap. We also ask that you don't app more than one character from the same fandom, and that you do not app more than two CALLSIGNS.
