THE TEST DRIVE

Like it or not, you've been dragged from your world into the sanctum. It's a pretty nice city, all things considered--sci-fi, high-tech, glamourous.... Except, of course, for the giant dome encircling it, and the threat of glitching, contaminated zombies at your door. Looks like humanity's built itself a fortress that looks suspiciously like a cage, too.

The object of this meme is to get people familiar with the world of the Sanctum, and to try to see if their characters would fit in a sci-fi utopia such as this. Here are your options:

1. Intro: Waking Up. Make your intro post, folks. You wake up in a strange place, and get a strange transmission to go with it. What are you going to do?

2. Failed Upgrade. One of your upgrades is more wrong than right. How will you cope? What exactly is different? Who will help?

3. Mission outside the dome. You've come under fire. The strange things are coming towards you. Luckily, you have your suit, your teammates, and a lot of firepower. Or are you stranded on your own, looking for someone to come to the rescue? Perhaps you're the rescuer.

4.Infected Something bit you. Now you're turning into them, and all you can hear is a high-pitched squealing in your head, like a frequency you just can't quite hear. Do you tell your loved ones, or do you wait? Do you trust your doctor?

5. Military training Everyone's got to start somewhere. You're training the green folks, maybe you're one of the newcomers yourself. Maybe you haven't even touched a gun before in your life. Either way, you'd better start now.

6. Chance encounter makin' my way downtown walking fast, faces pass--you get the point. You bump into someone! Shopping, or strolling in a park? Maybe just lunch in a cafe?

7. Glory to the Network! Network post. Text with general queries, say what you have to say to the entirety of the whole city.

8. Wildcard: Whatever you want. Mix and match, switch and swatch, make something else up entirely!

NO! Send me Delta! [His voice is sharp and angry, but then he takes a couple of deep breaths and continues in a calm voice.]

Agent York, try to understand... Delta knows far better than you what I am experiencing right now. I give you my word, he won't be harmed.

[His pride is hurt enough, he doesn't want to be seen in the state he's in right now. Delta at least will understand that.]

Consider it a token of goodwill.

I got killed chasing your ass down. I have no good will to give.

[ So that's what he sounds like when he's angry and himself. Damn. He'd hoped having his own body would make him less intimidating.

No such luck. But York is not a man that will be moved. The reasoning he gets, but Delta doesn't go ANYWHERE in the Dome alone. Let alone into a room with Omega. ]

He'll come. But he's not coming alone. That's as good as it's going to get.

Fine. [The word comes out a snarl, dark almost feral sounding. He's being backed into one corner after another, he's vulnerable and now he's going to be outnumbered.]

[ Bifrons really has no idea the trouble it's in, bringing Omega here. But then who else would be better to burn the bastards to the ground?

At the right time, of course. ]

...they leave you clothes, or you just got the suit and hospital gown combo?

The second one... the gown combo.

Alright. On a scale of CT to Maine, roughly how big are you? I'll bring clothes.

[He thinks a moment. It feels like an eternity as his brain chugs through calculations he could have done in a fraction of an instant.]

Less than Maine, perhaps closest to North Dakota.

So not that thick, but tall and broad? I can work with that. The shoes might be a little big on you but trust me, you'd rather have clothes that are too big than too small.

I'll defer to your superior knowledge on the subject.

If you're this grumpy now I do not want to see you navigate the streets of sanctum in jeans that strangle your business and boots that pinch your toes.

Strangle my what? Business? [What do pants and business have to do with each other?]

Your junk. Meat and two veg. The ole rod and tackle. Little Omega and his two friends. The family jewels. Honestly I could go on but.

Basically? Your brand new, squishier, human genitalia. When pants are too tight it gets real uncomfortable, is what I'm saying.

Why didn't you just say that from the start?

It says something about humanity, you're so disgusted by your own anatomy that you can't even talk about it rationally.

I wasn't sure if you would know what balls are, seeing as you've never had a pair.

Please, I wouldn't be very good at what I do if I didn't have a full understanding of human anatomy. Now would I?

[For example, he knows precisely how many newtons of force it takes to fracture, break or shatter every bone in your body. How much to burst an organ or to strangle you without leaving a mark on your delicate skin.]

Most of that came from someone five times better than you'll ever be, buddy. Borrowed knowledge isn't exactly muscle memory.

[His temper flares again at the insult, but he keeps quiet. He'll never be as clever, deceptive or logical as his brothers but that doesn't mean he's entirely devoid of those traits.]

This body is somewhat lacking in that regard.

[Don't worry, he'll be working hard to improve on that.]

[ For now. It's unsaid but heavy in the air- that implication of violence. Rage; Delta had said Omega's trait is rage. Anger like that can be useful so long as it's pointed in the right direction. The trick is gonna be in keeping the business end of it away from innocent people. ]

They've got training in the militia center just about every day.

[ Aside from a bare handful most of the trainers are pretty incompetent but he's not going to pass that on. ]

Good. I despise being unproductive.

[Keep him occupied and you'll keep him cooperative. Delta could run his little probabilities, Gamma had his jokes, Sigma his schemes and Theta had North but he needed to be active. He couldn't just sit idle, it was torturous. That was the problem with the program, eventually the simulations weren't enough, he grew bored and so he grew unstable.]

Most people do. Maybe we'll get you into lifting weights- Maine liked that well enough early on.

[ Before Sigma. Before everything. ]

Yes... and weapons. What weapons do you have available here?

[He's starting to sound almost cheerful.]

None you'll be trained with until you can tie your own shoes. Seriously. We need to master the basics of movement and dexterity before you tackle things with bullets, plasma bolts, and blades.

Yes, yes... but it's always good to have something to look forward to.

If you manage to not threaten anyone with visceral murder for a week [ baby steps are important. ] I'll teach you how to throw a knife.

A week you say? [Have some grade A creepy laughter. Dark and rolling with no small pinch of unhinged to it.] I keep the knife.
