( MEMES ) TEST DRIVE >> 7

Like it or not, you've been dragged from your world into the sanctum. It's a pretty nice city, all things considered--sci-fi, high-tech, glamourous.... Except, of course, for the giant dome encircling it, and the threat of glitching, contaminated zombies at your door. Looks like humanity's built itself a fortress that looks suspiciously like a cage, too. Toss in the odd memory blanks and the everpresent logo of Bifrons incorporated and it's enough to make someone paranoid.
The object of this meme is to get people familiar with the world of the Sanctum, and to try to see if their characters would fit in a sci-fi utopia such as this. Here are your options:
1. Intro: Waking Up. Make your intro post, folks. You wake up in a strange place, and get a strange transmission to go with it. There's a pair of glasses connected to some sort of communications network, but otherwise not much else in the room with you. What are you going to do?
2. Pet Adoption. Maybe you have the perfect genetically engineered pet in mind. Maybe you found a stray little escapee--do you keep it or turn it in? There's a reward if you let Bifrons know where the potentially dangerous little bugger is at, after all.
3. Alterations. Feel like you need an edge in the city? Find yourself injured and looking at options? Why not consider genetic alterations or, better yet, upgrading to a better, healthier you? Be warned, some of the side effects can be a little unpleasant.
4. Network Glitches. Strange garbled messages keep trying to come through in audio and text, but no way to track where they're coming from. Do you try to make contact? Compare notes with others? Surely it's nothing to be concerned about, right?
5. Dome Glitches. What was that in the window? There, again, in the bathroom mirror! Is that another you, living another life? Or maybe you spot an ominous shadow lurking around in the corner, something like a dysthrope but...worse. You're not going crazy, are you? Others see it, too, don't they? Oh, I wouldn't touch that reflective surface if I were you, or you might end up thinking you're living in that strange other world.
6. Outside the Dome. You're out and about without an armed escort, suited up against the atmosphere and dysthropes. It's supposed to be a green sector in this run down shell of what used to be a suburb, right? Nothing could possibly go wrong
7. WILDCARD. Choose your own adventure or create a cocktail from the presented options! The choice is YOURS.

He manages to keep himself from slipping off his stool and blinks over at the man next to him. Why is it that Thor always seems to show up when he's getting drunk or in need of a drink? Must be an Asgardian thing.
Blurring vision aside, he does still have the facilities to notice that Thor is missing his wings as well, if he'd ever had them to begin with. It's so strange seeing everyone without them.]
Thor. [He blinks.] Who else is here?

[ The hand on Steve's shoulder moves to rest between his shoulder blades, helping him remain on the stool. He has never seen Steven thus- but tis but one more strange twist of this place. To be lessened is uncomfortable enough, but tis good that he is here to mind Steven if he had not been expecting it. ]
For a time Natasha, a version of Natasha, Darcy, Jane, and your James Barnes were here as well, but they have since...left.

A variation? He's not the same Loki?
[The idea doesn't seem to come as much of a surprise to him. He's had a lot of experience wrapping his brain around time and universe bending logic.
But the mention of Bucky has him grasping his shot glass tightly. It's been so long since he's seen his friend. And he's missed him again.]
Sounds like I was late to the party. [His tone is dull, humorless.]
no subject
[ With a delicacy most would not expect of him he slides his other hand around to attempt to tug the shot glass free. Steve did not seem as though he needed more liquor. ]
Tis a party I would prefer you be late to. This place is...difficult at best.
no subject
[He tries to imagine this Loki who willingly protects humans and had to be mind controlled to plan an attack on New York. He's not really sure how a Loki like that would act. It's very hard to picture when all he can think about is the unsteady truce he had had with the Asgardian in the village.
He loosens his grip on the glass when Thor begins tugging it away, letting him take it without a fight. Now that Thor is here, he can have his questions answered. But he needs to sober up if the information is going to do him any good.]
And at worst?
no subject
We are as pawns here, Captain. Diminished pawns at that. The people do not know if they should fear us, laud us, or aid us at any given moment and much of our true questions of how to return home remain unanswered. There are circles within circles ever turning with their desires and none speak plainly or clearly. All is shrouded in mysterious intent.
[ He motions to the bartender for a glass of water, sliding that into Steve's hand in the shot's stead. ]
Drink, Steven. I shall take you home and explain more where we may not be heard.
no subject
...It's like I never left.
[His voice is a soft whisper. Steve allows the glass of water to be slipped into his hand. He drains half the glass in a few healthy gulps before placing it back on the bar. There's a question he needs to ask, but he thinks he already knows the answer. The fact that Thor hasn't mentioned that place all but tells him what he needs to know. But he needs to be sure.]
What is the last thing you remember before waking up here, Thor?
no subject
[ Does he in fact remember his time here? Does he know what he had lived through in this place? It does not seem so but- something similar?
That there could possibly be more than a single realm such as this stills Thor. Sends a knot of ice to his gut. How could there be more than one realm where all has come to this? ]
The death of my brother at the hands of the Kurst. Jane and I stranded on a dead planet, the Aether lost and in the hands of the enemy.
no subject
When his answer comes, it proves him right. He's able to understand what the Asgardian is talking about only because Thor had told him a bit about it himself. He nods slowly.]
Before waking up here I was in a village called Luceti. I was trapped there, actually, as were many people from other universes. A lot like this place. And I wasn't the only one.
no subject
no subject
How...how do you know all of that? Do you...remember?
[Somehow he finds it doubtful. But how else would Thor know these things?]
no subject
James Kirk has told me. He...knew a version of myself in that place and has told me much of what weighs upon him from his time there. I fear those same weights are upon your shoulders as well.
no subject
It wasn't so bad most of the time. There were a lot of great people stuck there with us. People I would have liked to continue my relationship with outside of the village, had it been possible.
But...there was also a lot of bad. [He swallows.] How much has he told you?
no subject
no subject
[He doesn't know a lot about Kirk's life back in his world. But he knew enough to know that the last time Kirk had returned to the village from his world, he'd been escaping his own death.
Leaning against the bar, he makes to stand. Despite being shaky, he manages to maintain his balance as he steps away from the bar.]
I think I've had enough for today. You promised to get me home?
no subject
Aye. Let us see you home.
[ Tis not so crowded in the bar as to make the way out difficult, nor are the streets so hard pressed for space that they cannot breathe. ]
If you do not mind riding behind me, I've a motorcycle.
no subject
Thanks.
[He tries not to lean too much into Thor's hand, determined to walk out on his own. He makes it outside without stumbling, an accomplishment.]
A motorcycle, huh? I haven't seen one of them in awhile.
[He truly misses his motorcycle from home.]
You'll have to tell me where you got yours.

[ By all appearances it does seem like any other cycle that Steve has seen- save a distinct lack of wheels. It hovers in place, inert and waiting for Thor's instruction. He assists Steve onto the back before mounting up, the engine thrumming as soon as his hands meet the handlebars. ]
It cost quite a bit- but I have found it a worthwhile investment.
no subject
He allows Thor to assist him on and watches in fascination as engine starts up once Thor touches the handlebars. He wraps an arm around his teammate's waist to steady himself.]
Does that garage have anything with wheels? Or are they all like this?
no subject
[ The roads are not designed for a horse- he must make do with what he has available, though he does not find the bike displeasing.
THe streets are empty when he starts the drive home, not so late that the bars have let out the crowds or so early that everyone has yet to find their bar of choice. It makes the trip a brief one. ]
