( MEMES ) TEST DRIVE >> 7

THE TEST DRIVE

Like it or not, you've been dragged from your world into the sanctum. It's a pretty nice city, all things considered--sci-fi, high-tech, glamourous.... Except, of course, for the giant dome encircling it, and the threat of glitching, contaminated zombies at your door. Looks like humanity's built itself a fortress that looks suspiciously like a cage, too. Toss in the odd memory blanks and the everpresent logo of Bifrons incorporated and it's enough to make someone paranoid.

The object of this meme is to get people familiar with the world of the Sanctum, and to try to see if their characters would fit in a sci-fi utopia such as this. Here are your options:

1. Intro: Waking Up. Make your intro post, folks. You wake up in a strange place, and get a strange transmission to go with it. There's a pair of glasses connected to some sort of communications network, but otherwise not much else in the room with you. What are you going to do?

2. Pet Adoption. Maybe you have the perfect genetically engineered pet in mind. Maybe you found a stray little escapee--do you keep it or turn it in? There's a reward if you let Bifrons know where the potentially dangerous little bugger is at, after all.

3. Alterations. Feel like you need an edge in the city? Find yourself injured and looking at options? Why not consider genetic alterations or, better yet, upgrading to a better, healthier you? Be warned, some of the side effects can be a little unpleasant.

4. Network Glitches. Strange garbled messages keep trying to come through in audio and text, but no way to track where they're coming from. Do you try to make contact? Compare notes with others? Surely it's nothing to be concerned about, right?

5. Dome Glitches. What was that in the window? There, again, in the bathroom mirror! Is that another you, living another life? Or maybe you spot an ominous shadow lurking around in the corner, something like a dysthrope but...worse. You're not going crazy, are you? Others see it, too, don't they? Oh, I wouldn't touch that reflective surface if I were you, or you might end up thinking you're living in that strange other world.

6. Outside the Dome. You're out and about without an armed escort, suited up against the atmosphere and dysthropes. It's supposed to be a green sector in this run down shell of what used to be a suburb, right? Nothing could possibly go wrong

7. WILDCARD. Choose your own adventure or create a cocktail from the presented options! The choice is YOURS.

Well that's not happening. Like it or not they asked, Damon.

[ the landscape doesn't lend itself to grumpy attempts at storming off - martyrdom or not she's not suicidal and separating yourself from the pack is never a good idea. ]

Like it or not I'm already out here. Are you going to actually help or just keep complaining about it?

[ she knows which one she wants the answer to be, it's just...unlikely that it'll be the one she gets. ]

[ as much as it frustrates him, as everything frustrates him. this elena ending up here, human and fragile and breakable. technically, just as breakable as stefan and damon, now, but damon will never act accordingly to that. he ignores the differences in his body if he can help it. so he'll still be the one putting his own neck on the line. if she could see him, he'd be staring her down. but, the helmet makes it more like they're both playing a VR version of Halo. ]

You know the answer to that question.

Arthur shoved his hands in his own pocket, wishing that his totem would appear and feeling nothing but the fancy pen he'd found earlier. This was a bad idea. All of this was just plain bad.

"Make it a double." He pushed away from the table, staying close to Eames like he was a lifeline. If this really wasn't Eames, it was a good forge. Whether he actually ordered the right drink would be the tell, though. Eames had most certainly watched him drink enough bourbon to know and if he ordered Arthur vodka or something else equally wrong, he was getting that pen in his jugular.
onthepoint: (dubious)

[personal profile] onthepoint 2015-03-21 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ Arthur frowns, studying the man. It could be a ruse. In fact, it's probably a ruse, but maybe Arthur should play along. ]

You're trapped here, too?
onthepoint: (in repose)

[personal profile] onthepoint 2015-03-21 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. [ Excuse him for sounding dubious. Or don't. ]

So what do the people who brought me here want from me? I probably don't have whatever information they're looking for.

[ If that isn't a lie and a half... ]
onthepoint: (mildly impressed)

[personal profile] onthepoint 2015-03-21 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I did. Is that common around here?

[ It's a curious picture being painted here. He's not really sure what to make of it. ]

Not extremely, but it happened to me too. [She takes the keys out of her bike-- it's probably not moving for a while, and there's a conversation happening.] Did you listen to the film they left for you to watch when you woke up?
dream_bigger_darling: (Thinking)

[personal profile] dream_bigger_darling 2015-03-21 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Really, Eames would be impressed with that level of adaptability. It was something he might have done, given that he couldn't simple wish up some of his favorite toys. He simply nodded to Arthur's request, sliding into one of the cushioned seats at the bar and waving the two chips at the bar tender to get his attention.

"Whiskey sour for myself, and a double bourbon for my friend here," he motioned to Arthur, placing on his sweetest smile for the server, just enough of his eyes hooded to suggest a pleasant sort of drunk without being sloppy.

The drinks appeared quickly, the bar tender smiling at Eames and dismissing him as another casino-goer out for a good time. Nothing to see here, nothing to comment on or pay attention to. Perfect.

He pushed the bourbon to Arthur, taking his own and sitting back, sipping slowly. Arthur's move now.

Ah, so it can read blatant implication. How nice. Aye, I am as much prisoner as you.
abjurer: (Go on I'm listening)

[personal profile] abjurer 2015-03-21 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I really doubt that you do. Project Immunis has been running for ages and I'm not convinced any of Bifrons' research has been of any use. [He hasn't seen any of it at least. If they've got anything they're keeping it very close to their chests.]

Look up. You see the sky? That's the dome. Envelops the entire city. Which is good because outside the dome is... really bad. Uninhabitable unless you like being infected and turning into a hideous mutant creature.

The theory was that people from other places would be Immune. Help with the research to find a vaccine.
abjurer: (Intrigued)

Max shrugged. "Yeah. I've lived in the Dome my whole life. It's nice to read about what came before. Where we came from." Hearing about a planet that wasn't a wasteland. It sounded like an amazing place.

"Oh, those are fun too. Save the world and all that."

'Crazy' is just a term used when we don't quite understand something yet. Objectively, everything is crazy until we look into it further.

Not really ashamed, more like 'vaguely concerned for others' wellbeing' but if you want to go ahead and take this eligible bachelor out on the town, far be it from me to stop you.

At least, until the point he tries to reproduce, because I really don't think we need any more of them right now. Or ever, for that matter.

[personal profile] ashumanasyouare 2015-03-24 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Really now, isn't that interesting. I'm sorry to hear that you've gotten dragged into all this mess, it's certainly something I'd never volunteer anyone for.

Ah well, some of us would like to believe the world can be a better place, just so long as all the rot is scraped out and brought to light first.

We can only hope that the information will become available though our work, and in that, allow those that don't wish to be here, that were kidnapped against their will, to return home to their lives and livelihoods.

Believe me, I've got a hand at stake in all this too.

Yeah well. It's sad to say but it's better than the alternative, personally.

Aw, a dewy-eyed optimist. I haven't had a good chew-toy in a while.

Good luck with that. You better hope that shit's more reversible than the current crop of rain coats.

Oh do you now. But not Immune, I'm guessing, so why do you give a fuck? They just here to give you all more genetic material or whatever blah blah blah lies they're making up this week.

Oh? I have to say, I'm just a little bit interested in what that implies.

[personal profile] ashumanasyouare 2015-03-25 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'll certainly try my best, I'd hate to disappoint you by not disappointing you.

Now now, it's certainly rude to reduce everyone down to just their genetics. I'm sure some people have stunning personalities too.

But it's rather traumatic being upset from your home so quickly and suddenly, and I'm sure that the kindest possible thing would be to allow a reversal of that process for anyone that wishes. Whether or not Bifrons agrees with that is another question entirely, but I think that I'm really done listening to all the bullshit they spew.

Besides, wouldn't you like to see your family again?

Just hoping that this whole deal between the Police Force and the PFA doesn't turn out like the last rousing speech I heard. I had to blow up an entire battle ship the last time.

[ Well, not him personally, but they'd definitely destroyed that thing. ]

Erik Lehnsherr - X-men (FC and DoFP)

[personal profile] alreadybetter 2015-03-25 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Erik is sitting very carefully upright. His elbows tucked in at his sides, his spine straight. He is in control. He is. Because if he weren't... if he weren't...

He's in a cell. They have him in a cell and they've cut into his back. They've cut into him and he can feel the metal there inside his spine where they cut into him inside his flesh where they cut -

He reaches out and picks up the glasses. His hand shakes, the glasses bend, the metal frames distorting under his fingers. Erik lets his breath out from between his teeth. Smooth, slow. The frames inch back into their correct shape and he puts them on, the view from the lenses swirling round as the camera turns.

He says nothing, makes no move to communicate, just sits there, still, silent and full of banked hatred.

[ooc: If crazy angry Erik is a tough sell, I'm happy to do any of the other scenarios instead!]
